Everything to Know About Santa Fe Skiing
Santa Fe Ski Season
The Santa Fe Ski season typically starts around Thanksgiving runs until mid-March or early April, depending on the area and that season’s snowfall. Although we can get as much as 300 inches of snow on our nearby mountains a year, the surrounding area also experiences more than 300 sunny days a year. You couldn’t ask for a better place to hit the slopes!
Ski Santa Fe
Ski Santa Fe‘s slopes are just 30 minutes from Downtown. The ski area offers 86 runs of every difficulty and length with seven lifts. This is truly the perfect destination for a group with different skill levels. Beginners can rent their gear and take skiing or snowboarding lessons. Then, they’ll have more than a dozen beginner trails to choose from. More experienced skiers or snowboarders will love the challenge of the steep inclines higher up the mountain. They even have five double-black diamond runs! Plus, Santa Fe’s backdrop makes for a beautiful scene while you fly down the slopes.
Pajarito Mountain Ski Area
We love Ski Santa Fe as much as the next person, but if you’re looking for the place locals ski when they want to get away from the crowds, look no further than Pajarito Mountain Ski Area. It’s a bit farther, about 50 minutes from Downtown, making it a bit of a hidden gem. The area actually has more skiable acres but fewer trails compared to Ski Santa Fe. It has 44 runs and five lifts that will take you to them. There are also equipment rentals and lessons available. If you have time, we definitely recommend trying to hit both ski areas because they each provide their own distinct and stunning views of the Rio Grande Valley.
