Our group of 12 (four families, from Boston, Chicago, New York and Washington) spent a magical week at Pinon House. Although we had read several reviews saying that the pictures do not do justice to the home, we were still delightfully surprised. The most amazing feature of the home is its beautiful veranda. The house is perched on top of a hill and the views from the veranda encompass mountains, cityscape (the lights of Santa Fe twinkle at night along with the stars) and fields. Although the home is in a neighborhood, subtle fences create the illusion of absolute privacy. There are three lovely tables on the veranda with 4 – 6 comfy chairs at each; there are also several chaise lounges, multiple extra chairs and a hammock. Because our group meets each year for a graduate school reunion, our primary activity is talking, and Pinon House offered the perfect environment for this: in the sun in the morning, under the shaded overhang in the afternoon, under the stars in the evening. It is a beautiful, magical place that captures the spirit of surrounding Santa Fe.
The house itself is very inviting as well. The dining room table is wonderful, and seats 12 with no crowding. There are two well stocked kitchens, and we were very pleased to find a well stocked pantry, soap at every sink, toilet paper, garbage bags, etc. The beds were comfortable and several of the bathrooms had been recently redone. The bathroom set-up was excellent, as there was a bathroom en suite for one bedroom and just outside the door of two others; only the two downstairs bedrooms share a bath. We had worried a bit that the basement bedrooms would be musty, but they were appealingly decorated and very comfortable. The beds and the sheets were superb.
I can’t stress enough what a wonderful house this is. The owners and the housekeeper are wonderful, and were extremely responsive to our every need. As a group, we have rented vacation homes in Vermont, the Outer Banks, Cape Cod, the Delaware shore – even a villa in Tuscany – and Pinon House is one of our all time favorites. This is our 20th group reunion, and I hope that we will be lucky enough to return to the magic of Pinon House for 25 or 30.
