What to Pack for a Ski Santa Fe Vacation Rental (Non-Skiers Welcome)

Heading to Ski Santa Fe this winter? Here’s a simple packing list for skiers, snowshoers, and cozy-cabin lovers staying in a vacation rental.

Santa Fe in winter is made for slow mornings, steaming mugs, and snowy mountain views. Maybe you’re hitting the slopes. Maybe you’re just here for the hot chocolate and the adobe-in-snow photos. Either way, packing the right things makes the trip better. Here’s what to bring.

What to pack for a Ski Santa Fe Vacation Rental.

Start with Layers

Winter days in Santa Fe are often bright and sunny, but mornings and evenings get cold. Layers let you adjust as the day changes.

  • Thermal base layers
  • A warm fleece or sweater
  • An insulated, windproof jacket
  • Warm socks (pack extra)
  • A hat, gloves, and a scarf

Don’t Forget Sun and Altitude Gear

Santa Fe sits at about 7,000 feet, and the ski area is far higher. The sun is strong at that elevation, even in winter. Pack:

  • Sunglasses or goggles
  • Sunscreen and SPF lip balm
  • A refillable water bottle
  • Moisturizer. The air is dry, so your skin will notice.

Drink more water than usual, especially in your first day or two.

Footwear for Every Plan

Skiers will rent or bring boots, but everyone needs good shoes. Streets and walkways can be icy or slushy, so bring waterproof boots with decent grip. Pack a pair of comfortable shoes or slippers to wear inside your rental too.

Non-Skiers: Pack for the Good Stuff

You don’t have to ski to enjoy the season. Ski Santa Fe is only about 30 minutes from downtown, and you can still ride the chairlift, go snowshoeing, or just enjoy the scenery. Back in town, there’s plenty to do, from gallery-hopping to long dinners. Bring:

  • A good book or a deck of cards for fireside evenings
  • A daypack for walks and day trips
  • A camera or phone with plenty of storage
  • A nice outfit for dinner out

Make the Rental Feel Like Home

One of the best parts of a vacation rental is the space to unwind. Most of our homes have full kitchens, so you can pack hot cocoa mix, your favorite coffee, and snacks for after the slopes. If you want to soak sore muscles after a day on the mountain, pack a swimsuit and browse our pool and hot tub rentals.

Skip the Gear Hassle

Ski Santa Fe the easy way. You don’t need to haul skis, boots, and helmets across the country. Both nearby ski areas offer equipment rentals and lessons, so you can pack light and rent what you need once you arrive. That’s especially helpful for first-timers or anyone flying in. Renting also leaves more room in your suitcase for the cozy extras, like extra socks and a good book for the evenings. Just pack your own base layers, gloves, and goggles, since these are the items that fit best when they’re yours.

  • Ski Santa Fe rental shop. The shop is at the ski area, about 30 minutes from the Two Casitas homes. You can reserve online and get fitted when you arrive. Gear includes skis, snowboards, boots, and helmets.
  • REI Santa Fe. The store is at 500 Market St in the Railyard District, near downtown, and the phone number is (505) 982-3557. It’s useful for last-minute layers, gloves, goggles, and sunscreen.
